Nagarkot : In a significant step toward ensuring sustainable, equitable, and resilient sanitation services, an introductory training on the City-Wide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) approach concluded successfully at the National Water Supply and Sanitation Research, Innovation and Capacity Development Center (NWSSRICDC), Nagarkot, from Chaitra 17 to 19, 2082.<\/p>\n

The three day training brought together 28 participants representing 26 urban and rural municipalities across Koshi Province, marking a major milestone in strengthening municipal capacity for inclusive sanitation planning and service delivery.<\/p>\n

The program aimed to equip local government representatives with the strategic framework and practical understanding needed to manage sanitation systems that prioritize equity, safety, and long-term sustainability.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis training has provided local governments with a clear strategic direction to implement sanitation systems that are inclusive, safe, and sustainable for all communities,\u201d said Chandra Shova Khaita, Training Co-ordinator.<\/p>\n

The training was jointly organized and facilitated by experts from NWSSRICDC and ENPHO, with technical support from UN-Habitat, ensuring a meaningful blend of global CWIS principles and practical local application. Throughout the sessions, participants explored how sanitation services can better reach vulnerable and underserved populations, how the entire sanitation service chain can be safely managed, and how municipalities can ensure long-term financial and operational sustainability.<\/p>\n

Designed under a Training of Trainers (ToT) methodology, the program received highly positive feedback from participants, many of whom described it as timely and highly relevant to the current governance and environmental context. The interactive facilitation methods were particularly appreciated for making technical concepts easier to understand and replicate at the municipal level.<\/p>\n

As a ToT-level program, the training also strengthened participants\u2019 own facilitation skills, enabling them to conduct similar learning sessions in their respective municipalities. \u201cThe knowledge and practical facilitation tools gained here will help municipalities integrate CWIS principles into local planning, budgeting, and implementation processes,\u201d Training Co-ordinator Chandra Shova Khaita further stated.<\/p>\n

As the representatives return to their municipalities across Koshi Province, the training is expected to contribute significantly toward building cleaner, safer, and more inclusive sanitation systems, laying a strong foundation for improved city-wide sanitation governance in the province.<\/p>\n
