Orientation on Groundwater Recharge given to NEIDA Team from Nagaland

Kathmandu : On May 30, at International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) office in Lalitpur, Centre for Integrated Urban Development (CIUD) provided an orientation on artificial groundwater recharge technologies to the team of North-East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA) from Nagaland, India.

Upon the invitation and technical support of ICIMOD, the NEIDA team had visited Nepal with the key objective of cross-learning the various technologies and approach applied in spring-shed management including groundwater recharging implemented by the ICIMOD.

Mr. Sudarshan Rajbhandari, Program Director at CIUD, provided an extensive orientation on the need of artificial groundwater recharge and the various technologies applied to do so to the team of the six members from different background such as hydro-geology, geology and social science. Mr. Sanjeev Buchar, Intervention Manager – Spring from ICIMOD shared about the ICIMOD’s spring-shed management and spring-shed based watershed management (hydrological mapping) program in the Hindu-Kush Himalayan region. Similarly, the NEIDA team also shared their spring-shed management program that they were implementing in Nagaland.

Later, Mr. Rajbhandari also took the team to the Balaju Park and Ranibari Community Forest in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City where CIUD had implemented the projects related to the artificial groundwater recharge for purpose of the onsite learning.
