Lalitpur : In most of the urban municipalities and rural municipality of Nepal, many organizations are working to improve and upgrade the level of WASH status at the municipal level. Keeping this in mind, the program of WASH building block analysis and planning workshop jointly organized by Centre for Integrated Urban Development (CIUD) and WaterAid Nepal (WAN) was completed on September 9, 2024 at Purna Resort Museum in Jharuwarasi Lalitpur.
During the workshop, Mr. Anand Gautam, the representative of WaterAid Nepal, presented that there are ten WASH Building Block which are basic pillars to take the current state of WASH in Godavari Municipality to the highest point and after analyzing it, the next action plan should be prepared accordingly. The ten WASH Building Block are coordination and integration, service flow and behaviour change, monitoring, accountability and regulation, gender equity and inclusion, environment and water resources, local government leadership and active citizens and communities. An annual action plan was prepared for Godavari Municipality to analyze the strength of the Building Block of the WASH system in Godawari Municipality in a participatory way.
In the workshop, Mr. Maan Bahadur Khadka, Chief Administrative Officer, of Godawari Municipality, in his valuable remarks, expressed that the action plan would be valuable for municipality to enhance the Building Block in municipal WASH system. Mr. Sarbagya Shrestha, Programme Head of WaterAid Nepal highlighted on although the activities mentioned in the action plan are difficult to complete in one year, the municipality thanked them for saying that they can do it. Mr. Sudarshan Rajbhandari, Programme Director also expressed his views on behalf of CIUD.
In the closing remarks, Mrs. Muna Adhikari, Deputy Mayor of Godawari Municipality, pondered her view that workshop, it was decided that the municipality will address the achievement of the workshop and allocate the budget accordingly to meet the criteria determined by the WASH Building Block.
