Lalitpur: Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026 was celebrated at Itahity, Chhampi, Ward Number 9 of Godawari Muncipality, under the Chhampi WASH Project with the active participation of Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs), ward representatives, local women, and community members. The event aimed to promote awareness on menstrual health and hygiene and encourage open discussions on menstruation-related issues.

The program featured an interactive awareness session on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) facilitated by Ms. Saru Deshar, Hygiene Officer, Centre for Integrated Urban Development (CIUD). The session covered the biological background of menstruation, the menstrual cycle, physical and emotional changes experienced during menstruation, and the importance of maintaining proper menstrual hygiene practices.

Participants discussed common misconceptions and cultural taboos associated with menstruation and shared their personal experiences related to menstrual health. Women openly reflected on the challenges they faced in the past regarding access to information, menstrual products, and social restrictions during menstruation. These discussions provided an opportunity for participants to learn from one another and better understand the importance of menstrual health and dignity.

Ward representatives and Female Community Health Volunteers emphasized the need for continued community awareness and support to ensure that women and girls can manage menstruation safely and confidently. Participants also discussed the proper use and disposal of menstrual products and the importance of creating a supportive environment for adolescent girls and women.

Observed under the global theme “Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld,” the event highlighted the collective responsibility of communities and institutions to break menstrual stigma and promote informed, inclusive, and period-friendly societies.

The program concluded with a commitment from participants to continue sharing knowledge on menstrual health and hygiene and to support efforts that contribute to the health, dignity, and well-being of women and girls in the community.
