Kathmandu: The five day South Asian regional training on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) has successfully concluded in Lalitpur. With support from CAWST, the Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO) organized a “Training of Trainers on Delivering Effective WASH Training for South Asia.”

This was ENPHO’s second regional training of this kind. Earlier, ENPHO had conducted a similar training for WASH professionals from the same South Asian countries through its own certified trainers.

The five day training brought together 16 participants from India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal, including representatives from Nepal’s National Water Supply and Sanitation Research, Innovation and Capacity Development Center (Nagarkot), Training Institute for Technical Instruction (TITI) Bhaktapur, and Local Development Training Academy (Jawalakhel, Lalitpur).

According to ENPHO Program Manager Ash Kumar Khaitu, the participants included 10 men and 6 women, representing 4 government institutions and 11 development organizations.

He shared that the training focused on how effective WASH training can be delivered even in settings where modern training resources are not available, by skillfully using traditional training materials.

Training Facilitator Shova Rana Magar said she felt honored to facilitate a session with international participants. “We have conducted many trainings within Nepal, but this training felt special due to the rich interaction and exchange of experiences among participants from different countries,” she said.

Participants reported that the training helped them strengthen their facilitation skills and deepen their understanding of participant-centered training methods. They also shared that their confidence in designing and delivering effective WASH capacity-building activities had significantly improved.

During the closing ceremony, participants expressed appreciation for the excellent collaboration and shared learning, emphasizing their commitment to further strengthening effective WASH training across the South Asian region.

The training was inaugurated last Monday by Er. Ram Kumar Shrestha, Head of the National Water Supply and Sanitation Research, Innovation and Capacity Development Center.
