Safeguarding Training Workshop Kicked-Off

Kathmandu : A two-day Workshop on Safeguarding has been started today in Kathmandu, organized by Start Network Nepal which is working on disaster response since 2021 AD in Nepal. Major objective of the workshop is to strengthening organizational safeguarding systems, practices and accountability mechanisms related to safeguarding within humanitarian and development programs. 26 Representatives and safeguarding focal persons from member organizations have been participated in the program.

The workshop has focused on introducing and reviewing the Safeguarding Standard Operating Procedures (SoP) framework and its key tools. Participants engaged in structured discussions and practical sessions aimed at mapping existing organizational safeguarding capacities and identifying critical gaps requiring improvement. Special emphasis was placed on enhancing understanding of safeguarding reporting and response mechanisms, ensuring that these systems are functional, accessible and responsive within organizational operations.

The sessions are being facilitated by a team of experienced safeguarding practitioners, including Bidur Banstola, Sujata Singh, Ranju KC and Nabin Lamichhane

According to Samjhana Ghimire, Partnership Specialist at Start Network Nepal, the workshop has been designed to ensure a common understanding of safeguarding responsibilities across member organizations and to strengthen collective accountability. She highlighted that such capacity-building initiatives are crucial for fostering safe, inclusive and ethical environments in humanitarian and development programs, especially in disaster responses.
