Surkhet : Two-Day Workshop on Policy Formulation and Progress Review Reflection Successfully Concluded, held in two slots on August 14-15 and 16-17, 2024 at Surkhet.
The workshop, organized in collaboration with NARMIN, saw the participation of 75 nos. from Mayors/Chairpersons, Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs), and WASH Coordinators from 25 local governments from Karnali Province.
The event featured intensive discussions and reflections on the progress made in the last fiscal year, with the esteemed presence of the Director General and Deputy Director General of the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management, Ministry of Water Supply, Government of Nepal and Ministry of Water Resources and Energy Development (MoWRED) of Karnali Province, along with representatives from the Embassy of Finland in Nepal.
The primary objective of this provincial-level workshop was to advocate for an enabling environment in the WASH sector at the local government level in Karnali Province. The aim is to ensure that policy formulation, implementation, planning, financing, and monitoring in the WASH sector are carried out in a planned and sustainable manner.
Facilitated by NARMIN Resource Persons, the workshop served as a platform for learning and sharing best practices in policy formulation, planning for WASH, and knowledge management. Key objectives included reviewing the annual progress of local governments in the WASH sector, planning activities for the current fiscal year, and sensitizing government structures and local elected officials on the importance of a legislative framework for WASH services.
The event also emphasized the need to strengthen WASH structures such as WASH-Management Committees, WASH units within local governments, and overall WASH governance at the local level. Additionally, the workshop discussed key recommendations from the recently published Joint Sector Review (JSR) report by the Ministry of Water Supply, addressing sector development issues from a broad perspective for local governments in Karnali Province.
The Director General of DWSSM extended special thanks to the SUSWA team for their continuous efforts in achieving outstanding outcomes in local governments, contributing to the SDG targets, and working diligently in vulnerable communities in Karnali Province.
